The IVF Diary - Postscript
We've now had our post-cycle review with a Fertility Specialist at Hammersmith IVF and it has been quite reassuring.
Apparently, it has not been who's had a fertility problem for all these years, nor my husband. We're incompatible in terms of the gametes bonding and therefore have finally got to the root of our inexplained infertility.
All the guilt I've carried around for years has now gone and left me feeling much better about myself and life in general.
There is an option open to us now if we would like to take it - ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) which basically means forcing an embryo to form by injecting a sperm into one of my ova.
This does open up both ethical and moral debate about bypassing Natural Selection. We did enquire as to the likelihood of having an abnormal baby through this process and apparently, there have not been any such problems associated with this treatment.
Jury's still out as far as we're concerned about taking this option. However, at least we are now wiser about our years of fruitless endeavours.
