The Frozen Embryo Transfer Diary - First Entry

Posted on Dec 10th, 2007 by Redzer : Alchemist Redzer
SyringeWe decided the time was right to try again using Frozen Embryos. I'm in a new job and am a lot more relaxed which should help and not having to go through the trauma of egg collection will hopefully leave me a bit stronger physically.

In October, I started taking Provera to induce the start of a menstrual cycle which is detailed below for reference. It is all a bit different in terms of drug regime, at least there are less injections and the Evorel patches are easy to apply. I was at risk of having the treatment stopped due to Hammersmith IVF closing over Christmas. However, thankfully my hormones were just about ready to continue onto the Evorel patches.

Hopefully a transfer will take place next week. Fingers crossed for us!

The Frozen Embryo Transfer Diary - Second Entry

Posted on Dec 29th, 2007 by Redzer : Alchemist Redzer
SyringeWe were very lucky to have a transfer conducted before Christmas. On the way to the hospital, we received a call from the embryologist who said that unfortunately two embryos had perished in the defrosting process. This was of course disappointing, however, we did get two embryos for transfer that day.
One embryo had remained intact with four cells, the other had three. Apparently, the embryos have to be at least fifty percent intact for transfer. We now have three left should this transfer fail.

Anyhow, my husband and I went through the quick process of having the embryos implanted and will not find out until 31 December if it has been successful. I will have to go in for a blood test on that morning and will receive a call later that day.

Since the transfer took place (Wednesday 19 December 2007), I have experienced extremely sore breasts, some insomnia and occasional cramping. I certainly am unable to tell at this point in time if it has worked. This may all of course be down to the progesterone supplements (Cyclogest) and the Evoril oestrogen patches which I have to continue until at least the blood test. Will let you know.

The Frozen Embryo Transfer Diary - Third Entry

Posted on Dec 31st, 2007 by Redzer : Alchemist Redzer
SyringeWe went for the blood test very early this morning at IVF Hammersmith and spent several hours anxiously anticipating the result.

At 12:20, whilst doing some gardening, I received the call and the result was unexpected to say the least. At this point, much like last time, I would have expected to receive a definitive answer - either a positive or negative. However, the doctor informed me that the result showed a positive for HCG, but this was at such low levels (6 as opposed to at least 50) that it is unlikely to result in a viable pregnancy. I have to return in a week's time for another blood test.

I have been experiencing a number of symptoms recently such as very sore breasts, tiredness and some minor nausea so this must reflect the fact that something has happened.
